Prospecting for Garnet in Wyoming

Gem- & industrial-garnets are some treasures dug in Wyoming by rockhounds every year. High-quality garnets mined by ants south of Rock Springs, are set aside by the tiny miners for rock hounds. And the cores of a few mountain ranges, mica schist with garnet porphyroblasts are exciting finds. Large garnets (fist size) were extracted from kimberlite and pegmatite in the State Line district south of Laramie.
